WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from American Humanist Association Executive Director Fish Stark in response to the U.S. government’s decision this weekend to launch missiles at Iran and directly involve itself in another Middle Eastern conflict:
“As humanists, we emphatically reject war as a tool of dominance, vengeance, and control. We mourn every civilian life lost and stand in solidarity with all people – regardless of nationality – who are caught in the crossfire of this violence. Our commitment is not to governments or nation states, but to the dignity of every human being. And the Iranian people deserve peace, safety, and the right to self-determination.
“We call on U.S. leaders to de-escalate, end this cycle of militarized cruelty, and choose diplomacy over destruction. And we urge every person of conscience to speak out on behalf of our common humanity. No more endless wars. No more civilian bloodshed. Enough is enough.”
