In accordance with its bylaws, the American Humanist Association (AHA) conducted an election for six positions on the AHA Board of Directors. All AHA members in good standing received a ballot via e-mail through Votenet Solutions Inc., a third-party voting site and/or were notified via the AHA’s quarterly newsletter Free Mind. Voting was officially opened on August 20 and tallied on September 30. A total of 1,182 voted.
Elected to four-year terms were: Debbie Allen, Rob Boston, Ian Dodd, Rebecca Hale, Sunil Panikkath, and Kristin Wintermute. They will begin serving their terms on January 1, 2017. Continuing to serve on the board are: Jennifer Kalmanson, Howard Katz, Susan Sackett, Christine Shellska, R. July Simpson, and Jason Torpy. Continuing to serve as an ex-officio voting member is John Hooper.
The AHA thanks the members of the Nominations Committee—Mel Lipman (chair), Kim Ellington, Kevin Jagoe, Mandisa Thomas, and Michael Werner—for volunteering their time. The AHA also wishes to recognize David Breeden and David Chivers, who also stood for election.
Thank you to all who participated in this election, continuing the AHA’s tradition of being the largest democratic humanist organization in the United States.
