(Moscow, ID – July 2, 2014) – The Humanists of the Palouse are continuing to spread the philosophy of humanism with five billboards going up in the Moscow, Idaho, and Pullman, Washington, areas this month. The billboards read “GOOD works in non-mysterious ways” to demonstrate the views of atheists, humanists and the millions across the nation who are good without a god.
Janny Stratichuk, regional programs coordinator for the Humanists of the Palouse, stated, “The tongue-in-cheek statement is a take on the traditional and widely heard, ‘God works in mysterious ways.’ This religious phrase is often used as a last excuse when theism fails to provide clear results in the real world. While theism may offer hope and wishful thinking, human beings doing good makes a visible and tangible difference in our relationships, our communities, and our world.”
The Humanists of the Palouse is a local chapter of the American Humanist Association, a national organization located in Washington, D.C. Together they work to promote humanist values on a local and nationwide level. Past collaborations include the annual “Darwin on the Palouse” celebration held annually in February in Moscow, Idaho, and Pullman, Washington.

The mission of Humanists of the Palouse is to advance community through rational thought and expanding knowledge. The organization defines humanism as a naturalistic philosophy that rejects all supernaturalism and relies primarily upon reason, science, democracy, and human compassion.
Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Washington, D.C, the American Humanist Association (AHA) works to protect the rights of humanists, atheists and other non-religious Americans. The AHA advances the ethical and life-affirming philosophy of humanism, which—without beliefs in any gods or other supernatural forces—encourages individuals to live informed and meaningful lives that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
