Dear Friend,
Weddings are momentous occasions in our lives, so it’s important to be legally married by an officiant of our choice. While humanist officiants are able to perform marriages in every state across the country, other secular and nonreligious officiants can perform marriages only in certain states.
Thankfully, Minnesota is finally joining a list of other progressive states that recognizes the right of secular officiants to perform marriage ceremonies. Bills in the Minnesota state Senate and state House of Representatives would give the authority to legally sign marriage certificates to secular celebrants appointed by atheist or humanist organizations.
This is great news, as it means that more secular and nonreligious Minnesotans can be married by the officiant of their choice. However, in order for these bills to become law we need your help right now.
All Minnesotans should be able to be married by a person of their choice, and with your help we can help make sure that they have this right. Help get these bills passed in the state House and Senate by contacting your state government officials right now in support of secular celebrants.
Thank you for taking action!
Sincerely,
Roy Speckhardt
