Dear Friend,
The religious right is at it again. Not content to continue their discriminatory practices against LGBTQ Americans in private, they are now working with their allies in government to ensure that organizations which discriminate against LGBTQ Americans can still receive government money.
Recently, H.R. 3133 was introduced by Rep. Raul Labrador (ID) to “prevent adverse treatment of any organization on the basis of views held with respect to marriage.” This bill, also known as the “Marriage and Religious Freedom Act,” effectively allows for organizations that have anti-LGBTQ programs, such as ones meant to actively fight against marriage equality, to receive government grants.
Simply put: fundamentalist groups want to continue to discriminate against the LGBTQ community, and they want your taxpayer dollars to do it. It’s outrageous that these groups believe they should receive federal money from the very LGBTQ Americans they wish to discriminate against.
I’m asking you to take a moment right now and join me in reminding Congress that taxpayers cannot be asked to foot the bill for organizations that will in turn discriminate against them.
Stand up against government funding of discrimination by contacting your Representative today.
Thank you for helping us defend equality for all.
Sincerely,
Roy Speckhardt
Executive Director
