Dear Friend,
By now, you’ve probably heard that the American Humanist Association worked with Representative Rush Holt (NJ) to introduce a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives “expressing support for designation of February 12, 2013, as Darwin Day and recognizing the importance of science in the betterment of humanity.”
Our lobbying work has paid off: five Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors, and many other offices are actively considering joining them. But you and I both know that there are plenty of evolution opponents in Congress who will work hard to make sure this resolution doesn’t succeed.
This resolution does more than simply pay tribute to Charles Darwin. When you ask your Representative to co-sponsor H. Res. 41, you are asking her or him to stand up against the Religious Right’s attempts to introduce so-called intelligent design and creationism in public school science classrooms.
I need your help in getting as many co-sponsors as we can for this important resolution if we are to see Congress standing strong on science. It only takes a minute to use our online action alert form to contact your Representative—and it will make a big difference.
Sincerely,
Roy Speckhardt
Executive Director
P.S. Thousands worldwide are visiting www.darwinday.org to join in on a local Darwin Day event. After you contact your Representative, I hope you’ll take part in the celebration of science and humanity by finding and participating in a local event.
