Please join the American Humanist Association for a luncheon and panel discussion exploring the politics and science surrounding the evolution v. creationism debate. 

The panel will feature renowned experts to lead a discussion:

Eugenie Scott, Ph.D., executive director of the National Center for Science Education and author of Evolution vs. Creationism: An Introduction and co-editor of Not in Our Classrooms: Why Intelligent Design is Wrong for Our Schools, 
Barbara Forrest, Ph.D., professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana University, expert witness for the plaintiff in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, and co-author of Creationism’s Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design,   
and
Kenneth Miller, Ph.D., professor of biology at Brown University, lead expert witness for the plaintiff in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, and author of Finding Darwin’s God: A Scientist’s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution and Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America’s Soul. 

Fred Edwords, communications director of the United Coalition of Reason and former editor of the Creation/Evolution journal, will moderate.

Creator of God: A Brain Surgeon’s Story

Join us for a special screening of an award-winning documentary chronicling how a brain surgeon’s quest, starting as a teenager, finds answers to how and why the idea of God came into human existence and if God actually exists. Produced by Vivekananad Palavali, a brain surgeon and author of A Mindful Life, Creator of God won Best Documentary Film at the AOF International Film Festival in Pasadena, California and at the Film Festival in Ferndale, Michigan.

The Age of Bio(in)security: Science, Citizens, and the Future

Join the Appignani Bioethics Center and the American Humanist Association for a press conference and panel discussion examining controversies in biomedical and environmental science and policy, including stem cell research, brain and cognition, and climate change technologies. 

Two distinguished speakers will lead the discussion:

Jonathan Moreno, Ph.D., senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, David and Lyn Silfen University professor of ethics, professor of medical ethics and of history and sociology of science at the University of Pennsylvania, and formerly a member of President Barack Obama’s transition team for the Department of Health and Human Services
and
Andrew Light, Ph.D., senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and director of the Center for Global Ethics at George Mason University.

Ana Lita, Ph.D., director of the Appignani Bioethics Center at the United Nations in New York City, will moderate.
