Dear Friend,
Ananta Bijoy Das. Washiqur Rahman. Avijit Roy. Three Bangladeshi humanists who blogged extensively on critical thinking, secularism, and the rights of religious minorities—and were killed by extremists for their beliefs. And more atheist bloggers in Bangladesh have been targeted with threats, according to a recent Guardian report.
Congress must hear their stories. Will you encourage your Representative, Senators, and their staffs to attend the American Humanist Association’s religious freedom briefing on June 9?
Building on our advocacy work with the U.S. State Department and religious freedom allies in Washington DC, the American Humanist Association, working with the Center for Inquiry and the Secular Coalition for America, will be hosting a series of congressional briefings on Capitol Hill next week focusing on international religious freedom concerns for humanists, atheists, and other nonbelievers.
Our message to Congress must be clear: Let’s work together to protect freedom of conscience and belief for all before more atheists are harmed. Please take a moment right now to encourage your Representative, Senators, and their staffs to attend the AHA’s international religious freedom briefings on June 9.
As humanists, we have a responsibility to act. Join us in working to make this world a safer place for all, regardless of religious beliefs.
Sincerely,
Roy Speckhardt
Executive Director
