What is Humanism?

That instinct puts you in the company of thinkers like James Baldwin and Albert Einstein, people who trusted reason and people over tradition and built real, meaningful lives around that trust. Humanism is basically that trust made official, a belief that people don’t need religion to be good to each other – just reason, empathy and a willingness to actually show up.

But do you ever get frustrated watching a crisis unfold and feeling like there’s nothing real you can do besides post about it or donate and hope?

That’s what the American Humanist Association exists for, to turn that hope into action through programming like the American Empathy Project, a national day of service that helps Humanist groups show up for their communities in life-changing ways. Here’s a couple places to start:
